EUCLID is a European Space Agency medium class astronomy and astrophysics space mission whose goal is to understand why the expansion of the Universe is accelerating and what is the nature of the dark energy responsible for this acceleration. Canada is a Full Partner in EUCLID and has 20 scientists who are members of the EUCLID consortium.

CANFAR current activities

  • EUCLID launch is planned for 2020. CANFAR is currently working with EUCLID scientists and with the EUCLID project to define Canadian roles and reponsiblities related to data management.

  • The Canada-France-Imaging Survey (CFIS) is providing u and r band data to support Euclid photometric redshift estimation.
  • CANFAR is the portal that provides CFIS data to the CFIS collaboration, the Canada-France user community, Euclid and public access.

Data & software needs and future plans

  • There are opportunities for a wide varity of science and technical involvement of EUCLID and CANFAR.
